Apple to offer HUGE back to school savings

Ron Johnson, Apple’s Senior Vice President, has been reported as saying that the 2008 “Back to School” Promo will be the biggest ever. To put into perspective what that might mean, here are some past deals:

  • 2007: Up to a $199 rebate with the purchase of a qualifying Mac and qualifying iPod. (The 4Gb iPod Nano was priced at $199, so if you chose that, it was free.) The catch last year was that iPhones, Apple TVs, and refurbs were excluded from the promo.
  • 2006: Up to a $179 rebate (their current 2Gb iPod Nano)
  • 2005: Their current iPod Mini

Obviously, Apple has a history of giving out iPods. But this year, I think things will be different. Obviously, it’s basically set in stone that a new iPhone will be introduced at the WWDC. My prediction is that all remaining iPhone V1s (the ones out now) will be sold off at a very discounted price, just to get rid of them. Those will go quickly. Then I believe that they will be giving away 8Gb iPod Touches. This all, of course, would be with the purchases of Mac Systems, Laptops, etc. But that’s just what I think. How about you?
